Tutorial – WooCommerce Shipping Settings – Flat Rate, Free Shipping, International, Local Delivery and Pickup

WooCommerce Shipping settings specifies configuration settings of product shipping. From this area you can control how to display Shipping Calculations in your store.

These are – display Shipping Methods either in the form of radio buttons or drop down list, provide Shipping Destination or restrict shipping to certain countries of your choice.

By default there are 5 types of WooCommerce Shipping –

1. Flat Rate

WooCommerce Flat Rate Shipping lets you to provide flat rate shipping rate for your products. Location of flat rate shipping is WooCommerce>Settings>Shipping>Flat Rate in the dashboard.

You can either allow or disallow this shipping in your store from the Enable/Disable option. Other properties to set here include Title, Availability for countries, Tax Status and Cost.

You should give your customers a perfect experience when they do the checkout. The WooCommerce Checkout Settings area is the place to do these checkout settings of your online store.

Cost also can be entered in the form of a mathematical equation.

Two parameters are included in the equation –

  • [qty] – total product quantity in cart
  • [fee] – An additional fee which has two optional arguments.
  • percent – A percentage based on total order cost.
  • min_fee – A minimum amount.
Examples:
  • 15 + ( 3 * [qty] ) – A base shipping cost of $15 plus $3 for each item in the cart.
  • 25 + [fee percent=”15″ min_fee=”6″] – A base shipping cost of $25 plus 15% of the order total, which is at least $6.

If you have Shipping Classes added from Products>Shipping Classes then more options are added in this page, and they will be given under the heading called Shipping Class Costs.

  • One cost field for each of the shipping classes.
  • No Shipping Class cost.
  • Calculation Type based on Per Order or Per Class.

2. Free Shipping

WooCommerce Free Shipping gives you the option to encourage customers to buy more in an order because you have use this free shipping offer only on orders over a certain price (eg. $100 minimum order gets free shipping only).

WooCommerce gives you an option to enable or disable this shipping method, change Title, set Method Availability option, select an option for field Free Shipping Requires… and Minimum Order Amount.

3. International Flat Rate

WooCommerce International Flat Rate Shipping is for international delivery. All it’s fields are similar to Flat Rate shipping.

4. Local Delivery

WooCommerce Local Delivery is meant to provide shipping for items delivered locally. If you have enabled it for your store then you can provide it a Title, Fee Type, Delivery Fee, Allowed Zip/Post Codes and Method Availability.

5. Local Pickup

WooCommerce Local Pickup shipping allows customers to pick up the orders themselves. You can enable it for your store and provide Title, Allowed Zip/Post Codes and Method availability to it.
